Let's meet at FOSDEM 2024
We are looking forward to go to FOSDEM 2024 and we hope to see you there. We'll have a stand in hall K level 2 where you can find us throughout the event. We'll bring a fresh batch of 120.000 hexagon stickers so come by to pick up a few and have a chat. We love to hear your questions, remarks, ideas and plans.
FOSDEM is the world’s largest gathering of free and open source software enthusiasts and open to everyone and free of charge. You don't even need to register. It takes place in at the ULB Solbosch Campus in Brussels in the weekend of February 3-4, 2024.
Bird of a feather & office hour
We've booked a room on Saturday morning for a network meetup (in the form of a so called Birds of a feather session. We have a room to ourselves for 1.5 hours, so if you feel like it: come and join us in AW1.121 on Saturday from 10:30 to 12:00h. Or visit the office hour on Sunday morning from 10:00 to 11:00, if you have a burning question to ask. And you're also very welcome at the Zero Grantees Feedback session at OFFDEM.
Overview of NGI0 & NLnet related presentations
We're happy to see many presentations of projects that were funded by the NGI0 research and development grants. Here is an overview:

Talk: Running NLnet on NixOS
Our very own Jos van den Oever will give a talk on the administration system he designed and wrote that enables the NLnet team to handle the hundreds of proposals and projects. NLnet runs mostly on Free Software. In the last years we have moved most of our systems to NixOS and keep our system setups in a single git repository handled with nixos-rebuild. In this presentation, Jos will explain how and why we do so.
Devrooms
While of course you should be in all dev rooms simultaneously for a total information overload, the density of NGI Zero related talks in the following rooms might be higher than elsewhere.
- 10:30-14:30 Libre-SOC, FPGA and VLSI devroom
- 09:00-12:45 Open Source In The European Legislative Landscape devroom
- 09:00-12:45 Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom
- 09:00-12:25 Nix and NixOS devroom
- 09:00-17:00 Modern Email devroom
- 09.00-17.00 Software Bill of Materials devroom
If you are also a grantee and your talk is missing, let us know and we will happily add it!

During FOSDEM the university is filled to the brim with stands where you can meet the people behind many FOSS organisations, communities and projects (and collect stickers). Here is FOSDEM's overview of all the stands and their place on the map. Below is an overview of NGI0 related stands, grouped by the categories as assigned by FOSDEM.

OFFDEM
The OFFDEM unconference will be held parallel to FOSDEM. OFFDEM is an intersectional festival about collective practices and free technologies production with different types of activities. It's a great program that already starts on Friday. There will be a table for petites singularités showing cooperation work, publications and Jeu VidéA and a session by APC.
NGI Zero Grantees Feedback at OFFDEM
Come to the NGI Zero Grantees Feedforth session. If you received NGI funding, come talk to NGI Zero mentors! They’re eager to gather your feedforth. It’s an opportunity for free software developers and open-source hardware engineers to ask them anything, and for grantees to share their experience and feedback with their peers and mentors.
FOSDEM Fringe
Coming to Brussels and want to have an early start? There are also events in the FOSDEM Fringe organised by or featuring projects we support, like the FOSS license and security compliance tools developers and users workshop organised by AboutCode, and the GUIX Days.
