Job opening

Communication officer at NLnet foundation

Currently open

NLnet is looking for a smart and eager communication officer. As communication officer you manage our visibility and outreach, and help shape and subsequently execute our communication strategy. You're the center of NLnet's communication and make sure we communicate in a clear and accessible way.

NLnet is a public benefit organisation established in 1989. As a small foundation with a big mission we work with hundreds of free and open source projects from around the world on all layers of technology and with a network of trusted support partners. As communication officer you make the amazing work that happens inside our ecosystem visible to the world.

As communication officer you can sink your teeth into every aspect of communication:

  • create and gather content for our website and external media
  • help write press releases, newsletters, organise free publicity and take good care of our decentralised social media accounts and other online channels
  • are a sparring partner for our international partner organisations and the projects we fund when it comes to communicating effectively
  • organize webinars, online workshops and tech briefings on technical and organizational topics of importance for R&D projects
  • contribute to reports on our funds and you publish both technical and accessible texts about projects

You are a hands-on and creative person, an enthusiastic storyteller fluent in English with excellent communication skills. You are eager to learn and have eye for detail. When fed with the right information, you can bring every topic to life. Furthermore, you:

  • have a suitable educational or professional/not-for-profit background
  • can translate technical issues into something that normal people can grasp
  • have general knowledge of (or at least a latent interest in) open source technology
  • if you do not have experience using open source software and operating systems, we'll have to teach you - because we walk the talk
  • are eager to learn and willing to dive into potentially unknown areas of knowledge

Offer

You will have a responsible and rewarding job in an informal and hard working not-for-profit, serving the free and open source community to the best of their abilities. Your contribution is of great importance to make our work visible, and in return you will have a lot of opportunity to deepen your skills as a professional — and actually help shape new media themselves. This is a job where you will learn every day, and can take a dive into many interesting projects and state of the art technology.

If you are passionate about free and open source software, and believe that we should not wait for others to fix the problems of technology today - then this is the ideal position for you!

We offer:

  • an attractive market-based salary based on knowledge and experience
  • Lots of responsibility and room for personal growth and open source contributions
  • Work in an exciting international context with cutting edge technology and an amazing community.
  • a full travel allowance if you travel with public transport
  • a hybrid workplace, we are in the office twice a week on average
  • 27 vacation days and the possibility to accrue additional days
  • an excellent pension scheme: NLnet pays 67% of the premium
  • space for education and training
  • laptop
  • reimbursement for (mobile) phone
  • a gross allowance per month for an internet subscription at home
