Michiel Leenaars, our director of strategy, will be a panelist at the Public Spaces conference in Amsterdam on Friday, June 13. In the session titled Putting Digital Sovereignty into Practice, four panelists will discuss how international collaboration can help develop digital sovereignty in Europe. The session focuses on several concrete European initiatives like the Eurostack Framework, the proposed ‘EDIC’ Digital Commons programme and the existing efforts in the Next Generation Internet initiative.

Speakers

Michiel Leenaars will take the stage with Public Spaces keynote speaker Paris Marx. During his keynote he will advocate for a two-pronged approach toward digital sovereignty that combines more aggressive regulatory enforcement paired with efforts to imagine and realize an alternative digital infrastructure. The panel discussion directly follows the keynote and serves as a platform to discuss practical steps supporting such an approach. Emma Ghariani represents a governmental persepective as the Head Open Source and Digital Commons Division at the French Interministerial Digital Directorate. The panel is completed with Zuzanna Warso, Director of Research at Open Future and fellow at the critical infrastructure lab at the University of Amsterdam.
