Open Library FastAPI
Internet Archive's free and open catalogue of the world's books
Open Library (OL), an initiative by the Internet Archive, is the world's largest digital public library, accessible to anyone with an internet connection. In recent years, the website has struggled to keep up with increased traffic and frequent DDoS attacks, resulting in major slowdowns and outages. This project will increase the resilience and performance of OL by upgrading the most-visited HTML endpoints to FastAPI, replicating the recent successful migration of its JSON endpoints. Additionally, the project will expand Open Library’s role in the federated web by implementing connections with BookBrainz and Inventaire. Ultimately, this project takes critical steps toward resilient global access to millions of books while strengthening collaboration across the broader open knowledge commons.
