Federated, open-source e-commerce ecosystem powered by ActivityPub
As far as e-commerce is concerned, small businesses and makers generally turn to centralized, proprietary solutions. These allow users to browse through products from multiple shops in one place, but merchants pay a high price: loss of control. This project will develop a federated e-commerce ecosystem based on the ActivityPub protocol. They focus on a simple shop system and the creation of a marketplace enabling search and browsing. Users will be able to browse through products from multiple federated shops in one place, providing the name, image, description, shipping info and price of a product. They can communicate with sellers and directly follow shops to receive notifications about new products without gatekeepers. An allow-list for participating shops can be used to create a network of trust that can reduce the risk of scamming.
