NeTEx deckplan infrastructure for public transport

Transport operators store vehicle layouts in a range of proprietary formats. This data cannot be shared between operators, and important accessibility details are absent, including the height gap between the train and platform, steps inside the vehicle, wheelchair lifts, and accessible toilets.

The NeTEx standard offers deckplan representation, making it the first standard expressive enough to model and openly exchange this information. What is missing is tooling. The NeTEx Deckplan Editor allows transport operators to create, edit, and openly exchange vehicle layouts, including the accessibility details travelers depend on. The project delivers this in two parts: a production-ready standalone editor that non-technical staff can use directly and a web component library for rendering NeTEx deckplans and integrating them into existing applications. The tools will be tested in practice by transport operators in Austria, Norway, Germany, and Finland, validating their use in real operational settings and identifying what is needed for smooth integration. The result is an open, interoperable foundation for vehicle data including accessibility information in public transport, available to any operator or passenger information service, while being fun for anyone interested in public transport to tinker with.
