Amber

Modern, type-safe language that compiles to shell

Amber is a programming language that compiles to Bash, designed for writing automation scripts while providing modern syntax, type safety, a bundled standard library and runtime safety guardrails. This grant will advance Amber by introducing new object-oriented data structures, including dictionaries, enums, and user defined structures with the ability to declare methods. It will also introduce an entirely new syntax for defining portable, version-aware interfaces to external commands, a new POSIX-sh compilation target, support for pipelines, improved interoperability with target shell code and numerous small language improvements.
