Open hardware hacker bunnie is working on IRIS (Infra-Red, In-Situ) inspection of silicon, a project to facilitate the non-destructive verification of silicon chips. The goal of the project is to give people a tangible reason to trust their chips. In this 90-minute tech talk he gave an explanation of the goal of the project and how it works. In the last 30 minutes he answered questions from the participants.

Chip inspection often requires removing or even destroying the chip. With IRIS bunnie has developed a method using infrared light to inspect chips without having to unmount them. The aim of the project is to create a set of techniques for the hardware world that fill the analogous role of "digital signature verification" used on software packages: a ubiquitous method to establish trust in an artifact, after it has been delivered to the user.

Bunnie is an open source hardware hacker, and an activist for digital rights and freedoms.
