NGI Assure open webinar

Answering your questions about funding call for digital assurances

This free online event on September 23 from 13 to 15 CEST will answer questions about this Next Generation Internet open call for open source projects developing security and privacy assurances. NGI Assure-grantees will join call coordinators to demonstrate the goals and objectives of this funding program.

The internet is vital to modern life, but its technology was never designed to support our economy and society with security and privacy guarantees. To advance the state of art and make our online identities, data, services and connectivity as secure and private as we assume they are, we need new ideas. That is why the Next Generation Internet program of the European Commission funds NGI Assure, a grant making programme that will allow us to support research and development into technical guarantees for a trustworthy internet. NGI Assure is managed by Innovation Engineering, FundingBox and the NLnet foundation. Calls open and close bimonthly and the fourth call opened August 1st 2021 with a deadline for submission of October 1st 2021 12:00 CEST (noon).

The size of the new fund is just over 5.6 million euro, making it a worthy successor to the NGI Zero PET fund that after two years has allocated its final projects (with the final count a total of 149 projects in over 28 countries, making it currently the single largest project inside the Next Generation Internet initiative). Like its predecessor, NGI Assure will allocate its fund in small to medium size grants through competitive open calls, and like NGI Zero it will support of free and open source efforts that contribute to addressing key challenges of the internet. Selected projects can also receive complementary support like security reviews, and are provided with a mentoring programme tailored to improving the sustainability of free and open source efforts.

To answer any questions applicants might have about this new open funding call, NLnet together with FundingBox organize freely accessible Q&A webinars. Call coordinators together with grantees will share relevant information and answer questions about the objectives of the call, how to apply and how the granting procedure works. No prior registration is needed, simply join the online webinar on Thursday September 23 at 13 CEST. The event is organized using BigBlueButton, an open source webconferencing framework which is actively supported by NGI Zero to add end-to-end encrypted chat.
